The Saskatoon Fire Department was busy this weekend with multiple car fires and a river rescue.

The fire department reports being dispatched to the 1100 block of Spadina Crescent East for a report of a man struggling in the river.

When firefighters responded, one water rescue boat was launched and retrieved the person.  He was brought safely to dry land where care was transferred to the ambulance service.

Then fire crews were dispatched to the 100 block of Ruth Street East, for a report of vehicles on fire.  Upon arriving, fire fighters found smoke coming from two vehicles on a driveway. Fire crews extinguished the vehicles and ventilated the home as smoke had drifted into the residence. The scene was handed over to the Saskatoon Police as it was deemed suspicious in nature, estimated damage is $25,000.
