Saskatchewan’s count of new cases of COVID-19 is the lowest it has been for about a week at 85. That brings the total for confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic to 51,390. Only the Central West zone reported no new cases in this update, and Saskatoon had the largest count with 21.
Ninety people have recovered, leaving 1,038 active cases in Saskatchewan. The province reports 71 people in the hospital including 12 in ICU. Seventy-five per cent of the patients in the hospital with COVID-19 have not been fully vaccinated.
Highlights
- As of August 16th, there are 85 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 51,390 reported cases.
- The new cases are located in the Far North West (9), Far North Central (1), Far North East (4), North West (5), North Central 8), North East (8), Saskatoon (21), Central East (9), Regina (3), South West (8), South Central (3) and South East (1) zones, and five (5) new cases are pending residence information.
- Eight (8) cases with pending residence information were assigned to the Far North East (from August 14 (1)), North Central (from August 12 (1), August 13 (1) and August 14 (4)), and Saskatoon (from August 14 (1)) zones.

- 1,038 cases are considered active and 49,766 cases are considered recovered.
- Over than one-third (37.6%) of new cases are in the 20 to 39 years age category.
- As of August 16th, a total of 71 individuals are hospitalized; including 59 inpatient hospitalizations and 12 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 71 patients, 53 (75%) are not fully vaccinated.
- No (0) new death reported today. 586 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died with a case fatality rate of 1.1%.
- 987,469 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the province. As of August 14, 2021 when other provincial and national numbers are available from PHAC, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 832,581 tests performed per million. The national rate of 1,034,874 tests performed per million.
- The 7-day average of new COVID-19 case number was 110 (9.1 new cases per 100,000).
