A letter has been sent to the Premier, the Education and Health Ministers and the Saskatchewan School Board Association, which is a plea signed by 105 doctors who are members of the Department of Pediatrics, the University of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Health Authority, to ask for clarifications on what the back to school plans are. The letter says, “We have significant concerns regarding the 2021-2022 school year related to the COVID-19 pandemic. As you are aware, since our re-opening, cases have increased, especially of the Delta variant.”
Their recommendations include masking for all children older than two and for teachers, continuing the protocols of social distancing and co-horting when possible, making sure anyone who is sick stays home until they are asymptomatic, and testing and monitoring of case counts in the community in case public health measures need to be re-implemented to protect children in schools.
