New cases and positive test percentage hit concerning high marks for COVID-19 in Saskatchewan Friday.
For the first time May 14, there were more than 200 new cases of the novel coronavirus recorded while the percentage of positive tests in the province was over 10 per cent for the first time since February 4. Friday’s dashboard reading from the Government of Saskatchewan website showed 244 new cases of COVID-19, from 2,320 tests for a 10.5 per cent positive rate. There were 66 recoveries, upping the active case count for the virus in the province to 1,381. From that number, there are 84 hospitalised patients, down two from Thursday, with 15 infections being treated in an I-C-U. There were no new deaths while 991 people became fully immunised Thursday out of 1,543 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered.

- 1,381 cases are considered active and 50,098 cases are considered recovered
- Less than one-half (40.6%) of new cases are in the 20 to 39 years age category
- As of August 20th, a total of 84 individuals are hospitalized, including 69 inpatient hospitalizations and 15 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 84 patients, 61 (73%) are not fully vaccinated.
- No (0) new death reported today. 586 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died, with a case fatality rate of 1.1%
- 995,362 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the province. As of August 18, 2021, when other provincial and national numbers are available from PHAC, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 838,331 tests performed per million. The national rate was 1,043,374 tests performed per million.
