SaskPower says residents and commuters will soon notice construction activity underway in the Sutherland area as the Crown Corporation begins construction on a major new transmission line. The $18-million powerline will be built between the new Preston Crossing Substation and the W.J Bunn Substation, on Attridge Drive near the entrance to the Forestry Farm.
A crew will begin installing foundations for the new transmission line structures this week. Throughout construction, residents, businesses and commuters may notice noise, dust or traffic delays and traffic flow restrictions.
Work zones will vary week by week, and the latest traffic impacts will be posted on the City of Saskatoon’s website. The project will be complete in early 2022.
The line will cross Circle Drive and run along Attridge Drive, making use of an existing right-of-way. One section of the line will use structures that hold two power lines, allowing both SaskPower and Saskatoon Light and Power to use the corridor.
Kory Hayko, SaskPower Vice-President of Transmission and Industrial Services says, “This new powerline will not only allow SaskPower to serve the University of Saskatchewan better, but will also prepare SaskPower to support planned development of adjacent U of S lands in the future.”
