Flipping the calendar from August to September has not slowed down the fourth wave of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan. The September 1st update from the provincial government’s dashboard showed 321 new cases, four new fatalities and 149 recoveries, leaving 2,372 active cases of the novel coronavirus in Saskatchewan. From that number, there are 134 individuals in hospital with a positive COVID-19 case, four more than in Tuesday’s update, while the number of infections being treated in an I-C-U remained the same day-over-day at 30. The 321 new cases came from 2,936 tests, a 10.9 per cent positive test rate. That’s the fourth time in the last two weeks that the province has registered a positive test rate at over 10 per cent. As for vaccinations, another 1,019 Saskatchewan residents became fully vaccinated on Tuesday from a total of 1,789 shots administered.

- Three (3) cases were deemed non-SK residents and removed from case totals for Far North East (from August 30 (1)) and North Central (August 30 (2)) zones

- 12,300 cases are from the North area (5,185 North West, 5,210 North Central, 1,905 North East)

- 280 cases have pending residence information
- 2,372 cases are considered active and 51,709 cases are considered recovered
- About two-fifths (35.5%) of new cases are in the 20 to 39 years age category
- About one in six (15.6%) new cases was fully vaccinated
- As of September 1st, a total of 134 individuals are hospitalized; including 104 inpatient hospitalizations and 30 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 134 patients, 97 (72.4%) were not fully vaccinated
- Four (4) new deaths reported today. 607 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died with a case fatality rate of 1.1%
- 1,027,924 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the province. As of August 30, 2021, when other provincial and national numbers are available from PHAC, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 865,434 tests performed per million. The national rate was 1,066,685 tests performed per million
- The 7-day average of new COVID-19 case numbers was 263 (21.8 new cases per 100,000).
