A woman who was originally scheduled to stand trial in January, charged with first degree murder begins her 24 day trial today (Tues) by judge alone in connection to the death of 25 year old Tiki Laverdiere in 2019. Ten people were charged in connection to this murder investigation.
The Edmonton woman was reported missing in May of 2019 and her remains were found just outside of North Battleford that July. Laverdiere had been in Saskatchewan to attend the funeral of 20 year old Tristen Cook-Buckle on the Thunderchild First Nation.
Of the ten individuals facing charges, Brent Checkosis and Mavis Takakenew were sentenced in May of 2020, after pleading guilty to accessory after the fact to murder. Charles St. Savard was sentenced in January after pleading guilty to kidnapping. His charge of first degree murder was stayed last October.
Nikita Cook’s trial is scheduled to continue until October 8th.
