As of the first day of classes on Thursday, enrolment at the University of Saskatchewan is up for the seventh year in a row. Assistant vice-provost of strategic enrolment management, Alison Pickrell, says the tally is 22,059 students as opposed to 21,819 last fall.
However, she expects the number for the year to be higher than that. Pickrell explains that because of additional intakes through the academic year, USask will have accepted over 26,000 students both on campus and online. There are a couple of reasons for this year’s increase. She notes there have been expanded virtual student recruitment efforts and some students had to defer their admission from last fall due to international travel restrictions.
USask continues to offer a blend of virtual and in-person classes, as well as services and supports. Pickrell believes once the pandemic is over, many virtual options will continue.
