The Saskatoon Fire Department was called out to the Pleasant Hill neighbourhood at 4:34 p.m. yesterday afternoon after receiving a report of a fire in a boarded up house. When fire crews arrived there were flames and smoke showing on the second floor. Utilities to the building were shut down for safety reasons and when fire crews made their way into through the back of the house the could see the floor decking had been compromised by the blaze and the decision was made to extinguish the fire from a safe distance. The fire was brought under control at 5:02 p.m. Half of the building was so badly damage it couldn’t be searched or entered and a search of the second floor showed it contained what is described as excessive combustible storage and debris. Saskatoon Police are working with the fire investigator to determine a cause and origin of the fire. No damage estimate is available as yet.
