Saskatchewan New Democrats are urging the provincial government to ensure Afghan immigrants resettling in Saskatchewan have the necessary supports in order to realize their full potential.
Official opposition immigration critic Aleana Young (pictured in background) stood with two women originally from Afghanistan, Fatema Soltani and Zohra Bahrami (pictured at microphone), outside the Legislature with Young saying, “Soldiers, sailors, and aviators from every part of our province served in Afghanistan over the last 20 years. I think that the best thing our provincial government can do to recognize and honour that sacrifice is step up to the plate, do the work, and make sure that supports are in place for these Afghans who will soon be making Saskatchewan home. That work needs to start today.” Young also called on the provincial government to put pressure on the federal government to ensure that an increased number of vulnerable Afghans are settled in Saskatchewan from the August 13th plan to resettle 20,000 in Canada.
