It was back to work Monday for the Saskatchewan Roughriders as they get set for a key contest Friday in B-C.
Both the Green and White and the Lions have 4-2 records, tied for second place in the C-F-L West Division.
On Day 1 of the Green and White’s preparation work week, defensive back Ed Gainey was back practicing. He’s been dealing with a toe injury. As a result, there was an interesting change in the Riders secondary with Loucheiz Purifoy taking reps at safety. Head coach Craig Dickenson says they can consider this move because Purifoy knows the game. In addition, Saskatoon product Brett Boyko was with the offensive starters at left tackle with no Andrew Lauderdale on the Mosaic Stadium turf. He hurt an ankle Friday against Toronto. A-C Leonard was practicing, though he won’t play on Friday. Leonard will serve the third game of his suspension against the Lions.
With division-leading 6-1 Winnipeg among three teams having a bye this coming weekend, the Riders-Leos winner keeps first place in their conversation, along with a home playoff game. The loser drops into third place and has 2-4 Edmonton and 2-5 Calgary to worry about behind them. Saskatchewan opened the season with a 33-29 victory over B-C at Mosaic Stadium.
