The President of the United States reached out to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday to congratulate him on his re-election. The Prime Minister’s Office says the two leaders committed to getting together in person soon to discuss bilateral cooperation on a range of important issues, including the Buy America provisions, collaboration on fighting climate change, and the response to COVID-19. That includes the management of the Canada-U.S. land border.
During Tuesday’s conversation, the Prime Minister and President Joe Biden discussed China’s detention of Canadian citizens Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig. Many believe the detention is a retaliation for Canada’s arrest of a Huawei executive in response to an extradition order from the U.S.
