A cystic fibrosis medication which was costing about $30,000 a month is being added to Saskatchewan’s Formulary effective October 1st.
A spokesperson with Cystic Fibrosis Canada, Kim Steele, says Trikafta is the single greatest innovation in C.F. history, and it has the power to transform the lives of thousands of of Canadians.
Saskatchewan is part of the pan-Canadian Pharmaceutical Alliance which has been negotiating with a pharmaceutical company about this drug.
Earlier this month, it was announced that a mutual agreement had been reached on the pricing and conditions of coverage.
The medication is approved by Health Canada for cystic fibrosis patients 12 years of age and older, with a specific cystic fibrosis genetic mutation.
