There will be a home team at the Tim Horton’s Canadian Curling Trials at SaskTel Centre in November.
Matt Dunstone’s Regina foursome joined Winnipeg’s Mike McEwen in punching their ticket to the men’s division trials at a pre-event qualifier over the weekend in Ottawa. On the women’s side, teams skipped by Kelsey Rocque of Edmonton, Casey Scheidegger of Lethbridge and Laura Walker of Edmonton qualified for the November 20-27 Trials at SaskTel Centre.
That means seven women’s and seven men’s teams have earned their way here, leaving two more teams to come from each gender division. They will be determined following the last-chance qualifier in Liverpool, Nova Scotia in late October. This past weekend in Ottawa, there was a Pre-Trials Direct Entry event. On the women’s side, Jessie Hunkin’s North Battleford dropped two chances to qualify for Liverpool, losing to Kerry Galusha of the Northwest Territories and Jill Brothers of Halifax. On the men’s side, Vincent Roberge of Quebec City and Sean Grassie of Winnipeg earned the two spots into the final qualifier.
