Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters this morning (Tues) that he has spoken to the Governor General and confirmed his intention to form the next government. Swearing-in of the cabinet will happen in October, and the intention is to bring back Parliament by the end of fall. Trudeau added that Chrystia Freeland will be back as Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister.
He says this past week since the election has been a busy one including phone calls with Premiers to talk about their priorities, and a conversation with U.S. President Biden. Considering the rising numbers of COVID-19, Trudeau says federal officials stand ready to help areas of the country experiencing spikes in cases during the 4th wave of the pandemic, including Alberta and Saskatchewan. Federal officials have already engaged with their provincial counterparts to offer any and all support from equipment, like ventilators, to human resources like the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Red Cross.
