Since there was no 2020 edition because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Saskatchewan goes into the 2021 W-H-L Cup as the last champions.
The top 2006-born players make up the 20-man teams for the four Western Canada provinces, who will collide in the round-robin plus playoffs format coming up October 20-24 in Red Deer.
The four provinces each revealed their respective W-H-L Cup rosters today. Sixteen of the 20 Saskatchewan players come from the Central and Northern areas of the province. There’s two goaltenders, five defencemen and 13 forwards on the Saskatchewan roster…all playing in the Saskatchewan Male Under-18 Triple-A League. Eight of the 20 are with the Saskatoon Blazers, including highly-rated defenceman Tyson Buczkowski for December’s 2021 W-H-L Prospects Draft. Buczkowski is the son of former Blades’ star Paul Buczkowski. Five are with the Saskatoon Contacts, two from the Regina Pat-Canadians and one each from the Warman Wildcats, Prince Albert Mintos, Tisdale Trojans, Battlefords Stars and Moose Jaw Warriors.
