Shortly after 8 o’clock Wednesday night, RCMP from the Portage la Prairie detachment responded to report of a collision involving a vehicle and a cyclist on the Trans-Canada Highway near the community of Austin. Once officers arrived, they located the victim on the roadway. A 24 year-old man from Brandon was declared dead at the scene. The investigation has determined that a vehicle, driven by a 54 year-old man from Regina was heading eastbound in the left lane when suddenly the driver saw a cyclist in the same lane and collided with him. The driver stopped and called 9-1-1. The Regina man was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Alcohol and speed are not believed to have been factors in the incident. Police are still investigating.
