There have been two plane crashes in Alberta this weekend. The first was just before 5 Saturday afternoon when the Blackfalds RCMP responded to a distress beacon from an aircraft. Blackfalds is north of Red Deer. A downed plane was located in a remote area.
Police say the male pilot was declared dead at the scene and a male passenger was extracted from the wreckage and transported to an Edmonton area hospital with serious injuries. The identities of the occupants aren’t being released at this time.
Then on Sunday morning around 11, Westlock RCMP responded to a plane crash at the local airport. Westlock is about 90 kilometres north of Edmonton. There were four people in the plane. There is no information at this point about the severity of injuries.
Police say three people were taken to hospital by ambulance and the status of the fourth passenger isn’t known at this time. Transport Canada has been notified of both accidents and is investigating.
