A private long term care company is transitioning the operation of its five facilities in the province to the Saskatchewan Health Authority. A news release from the SHA says there will be no immediate changes for residents, families and staff. Extendicare’s five homes currently provide about 550 long-term care spaces, with three homes in Regina, and one each in Saskatoon and Moose Jaw.

CEO Scott Livingstone emphasizes the SHA has worked closely with Extendicare throughout this process and appreciates the company’s cooperation during the outbreak at Parkside and throughout the course of the recent co-management agreement. The SHA and Extendicare will establish a process that maintains consistency of care and service during the transition, and which works with the health system, and union partners to ensure stability for all staff.

Livingstone says, “Moving in this direction is a result of a number of complex factors, including the lessons we have learned during the pandemic and future demand for long term care services.”
