Saskatoon Police say they were called at 10:43 p.m. last night to a report of a man acting in an erratic and violent manner.

When officers arrived at the location in the 1800 block of Idylwyld Drive North they say repeated attempts were made by officers to verbally de-escalate the situation but their efforts were ignored.

Police say the suspects behaviour became increasingly violent, and threats of self-harm were repeatedly announced. As well they say he threatened to use a weapon and told police he wanted them to shoot him.

A conducted energy weapons was successfully deployed and a 44 year old man was apprehended under the Mental Health Services Act. He was taken to hospital and is being held for assessment.
