Saskatchewan Polytechnic has launched a new way of learning. President and CEO, Dr. Larry Rosia, says Surge micro-credentials give learners the skills to fast-track their careers while also giving employers the skilled workforce they need. He suggests the need to upskill and reskill was already evident before the pandemic, but COVID-19 has only made it more urgent, with layoffs in some sectors, while others are in desperate need of qualified people.
Micro-credentials are short, focused courses for skills in specific areas, and Dr. Rosia says, they can be taken on your own terms. That means in real time with an industry professional or online at your own pace. They can last anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks.
Surge micro-credentials are designed in collaboration with input from industry partners including the International Minerals Innovation Institute and Microsoft, and supported by the provincial government. The opportunities are around business and industry, computers and technology, education and early learning, and entrepreneurship and leadership. Click here for more information.
