Saskatchewan’s Machart, Bitz named Players of the Week
Machart had his biggest offensive game of the season, amassing 221 total yards for the Huskies in their 54-27 win over the Alberta Golden Bears. The Offensive Player of the Week rushed the ball 11 times for 132 yards, including a 68-yard major on the game’s opening offensive play.
The fourth-year running back added another 89 yards receiving and was the recipient of one of Saskatchewan quarterback Mason Nyhus’ four touchdown passes on the day.
Logan Bitz was named the Special Teams Player of the Week after scoring a touchdown of his own in the Huskies’ win over Alberta. After a fourth quarter punt return attempt was fumbled by Alberta, the second-year defensive back broke away from the pile up to jump on the bouncing ball in the end zone for the major.
With the Bisons in a fourth quarter hole, Defensive Player of the Week Stefan Conway stepped up to ignite a Manitoba comeback and keep the Bisons unbeaten at 3-0. After a turnover of their own, the fourth-year defensive back returned a Calgary interception to the Dinos’ six-yard line where the Bisons would score their first touchdown of the game. The major was the start of 23 straight points for Manitoba, resulting in a 28-20 victory.
Week 5 features a pair of CW Football Showcase games on the schedule Saturday with the Manitoba Bisons (3-0) in Vancouver to take on the UBC Thunderbirds (1-2) at 1 p.m. PDT, and the Regina Rams (1-2) battling the Saskatchewan Huskies (2-0) in Saskatoon at 2 p.m.
