“Pokecheck’s” birthday party was made complete when the Saskatoon Blades downed the Regina Pats 4-1 Sunday in front of the Blue and Gold’s mascot and 4,165 fans at SaskTel Centre.
The result kept all the trends going for the Bridge City Bunch and their Big City Saskatchewan rivals. It was the Blades’ fourth straight win and extended their run of collecting points in the standings to seven games at 6-0-1. In all seven games, Saskatoon has scored at least four goals. Meanwhile, the loss was the seventh-in-a-row for Regina after they won their first two games of the season. Belarus import forward Egor Sidorov opened the scoring, the sixth time in eight games this season the Blue and Gold have jumped out in front to start a game. For Sidorov, it was his fourth goal of the season, coming in four consecutive games. The 17-year-old scored on the power play, the sixth straight contest in which the Bridge City Bunch have tallied with the man advantage. Brandon Lisowsky, Tristen Robins and Moritz Elias also found the back of the net for the 6-1-1 Blades. For Robins, the goal extended his points streak to all seven games he has played in, while line-mate Kyle Crnkovic had an assist to increase his season-opening points streak to eight games. Cole Dubinsky scored the lone goal for the Pats in the first period, the only blemish on the day for Saskatoon goaltender Nolan Maier. He stopped 27 shots as Regina out-shot the Blue and Gold 28-26. Next action for the Bridge City Bunch is Wednesday when Moose Jaw visits SaskTel Centre at 7 o’clock. The broadcast on CJWW begins at 6:30. Following are Les Lazaruk’s post-game show interviews with head coach Brennan Sonne, Lisowsky and forward Jayden Wiens, plus the game summary courtesy the W-H-L…..
