A Moose Jaw woman will face a total of nine charges when she first appears in Provincial Court on November 17 following a Friday morning series of hit and run collisions in Regina.
Twenty-nine-year-old Ashley Lynn Sugar was eventually apprehended following five separate collisions between her Chrysler 200 and various other vehicles resulting in damages to her vehicle and the other five she ran into. At about 7:30 a.m. on October 22, Regina Police were sent to a two-vehicle collision in the west-bound lanes of 12th Avenue at Rose Street. The Chrysler 200 ran into the back of a waste disposal vehicle which had been stopped at a red light. Sugar didn’t exit the vehicle and couldn’t be roused by officers banging on the window. When officers broke the back window, she woke up, but didn’t exit the car or turn off the engine. Instead, she tried to drive forward, then reversed into a patrol car and City of Regina truck before fleeing the scene. Not long later, police received word of the same Chrysler 200 striking another vehicle in the 1800 block of Smith Street. A police supervisor vehicle came up behind her, only to have Sugar back into the police vehicle, then flee the scene. It took a canine unit vehicle to follow the Chrysler 200 until a spike belt could be safely deployed before Sugar was safely taken into custody in the 2100 block of Retallack Street. No one was injured in this series of incidents. Sugar faces five counts of hit and run, two counts of evade police and one count each of impaired operation of a conveyance by alcohol, drugs or a combination and exceed .08. She was released pending her November 17 court date.
