There are 237 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Saskatchewan on Thursday. The Government of Saskatchewan’s dashboard update included 11 new deaths bringing the provincial death toll due to the pandemic to 843. The Saskatoon zone accounted for 63 of the new infections followed by the Regina area with 47. 2,398 cases are considered active in the province with 73,826 cases now considered recovered. There are 260 people hospitalized for the virus in Saskatchewan with 58 receiving care in Saskatchewan ICUs. Three additional patients were been transferred to Ontario on Wednesday, for a total of nineteen patients relocated out of province, with an expected four more patients to be transferred on Thursday. The 7-day average of new COVID-19 cases is at 218.
Below are the highlights posted to the Government of Saskatchewan’s dashboard:
- As of October 28th, there are 237 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 77,067 reported cases
- The new cases are located in the Far North West (1), Far North East (11), North West (14), North Central (18), North East (5), Saskatoon (63), Central East (25), Regina (47), South West (7), South Central (10), and South East (32) zones and four (4) new cases have pending residence information
- Eight (8) cases with pending residence information were assigned to the Far North West (from September 27 (1), October 26 (2)), Far North East (from October 7 (1)), North West (from September 15 (1), October 26 (1)), and North Central (from October 26 (2)) zones
- 77,067 cases are confirmed
- 18,855 cases are from the North area (8,375 North West, 7,723 North Central, 2,757 North East)
- 18,571 cases are from the Saskatoon area
- 15,151 cases are from the Regina area
- 9,368 cases are from the South area (2,083 South West, 2,817 South Central, 4,468 South East)
- 9,077 cases are from the Far North area (4,237 Far North West, 541 Far North Central, 4,299 Far North East)
- 5,422 cases are from the Central area (1,383 Central West, 4,039 Central East)
- 623 cases have pending residence information
- 2,398 cases are considered active and 73,826 cases are considered recovered
- Over one-quarter (27.4%) of new cases are in the age category of 11 or under
- Over one-quarter (29.1%) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) were fully vaccinated
- As of October 28th, a total of 260 individuals are hospitalized in SK, including 202 inpatient hospitalizations and 58 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 260 patients, 185 (71.2%) were not fully vaccinated. Three (3) additional cases were transferred to Ontario, for a total of nineteen (19) SK cases who have been transferred out-of-province to date. As these patients are receiving care out of province, this number is not included in the hospitalization counts in dashboard.
- Eleven (11) new deaths reported today. 843 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died, with a case fatality rate of 1.1%.
- 1,219,764 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the province. As of October 25, 2021, when other provincial and national numbers are available from PHAC, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 1,026,000 tests performed per million. The national rate was 1,205,608 tests performed per million.
- The 7-day average of new COVID-19 case numbers was 218(18.1 new cases per 100,000)
