Special teams and goaltending keyed the Saskatoon Blades to a bounce-back 4-2 victory over the Tigers in Medicine Hat Saturday night.
One night after the Bridge City Bunch had a five-game winning streak ended by a 4-3 loss in Lethbridge, the Blue and Gold scored all four of their goals on six power play chances, killed off all four Bengals’ man advantages and got 35 saves from rookie goaltender Ethan Chadwick. While the winning streak was ended Friday, the Blades managed to maintain some streaks that were extended on Saturday. Such as scoring the first goal of a game for the fifth game-in-a-row and ninth time in 11 games this season, plus scored on the power play for a ninth consecutive game and 10th time in 11 outings. As for the penalty kill, Saskatoon has gone seven straight games without allowing an opposition power play goal, killing off 26 chances-in-a-row. For 17-year-old Saskatoon product Chadwick, it was his second win in as many W-H-L starts, both on the road and both in games in which the Bridge City Bunch were out-shot. In both games, Chadwick was named the third star. Kyle Crnkovic (pictured) scored twice with Brendan Lee and Egor Sidorov adding singles while Lee had an assist. In addition, captain Aidan De La Gorgendiere and Tristen Robins chipped in a pair of helpers each. For Robins, he regained top spot in the W-H-L points scoring race with 21, including 14 assists. The Blue and Gold finished their October schedule with an 8-2-1 record while Medicine Hat fell to 4-5-2. The Blades are home to Swift Current Wednesday at 7 p.m. with CJWW’s broadcast beginning at 6:30.
