SGI’s November Traffic Safety Spotlight is on winter driving and intersection safety. The provincial vehicle insurer is urging drivers to sharpen their winter driving skills so the first snowfall of the season isn’t spoiled by vehicle collisions.
SGI says take the time to fully clear ice and snow from your vehicle’s windows before you head out on the road, in or out of the city. And when you do drive increase your following distance to five seconds or more so you can avoid hitting the vehicle in front of you when you have to come to a stop.
SGI also recommends winter tires when temperatures dip below seven degrees Celsius.
Nearly half of all crashes on Saskatchewan roads happen at intersections.
