The first game at the Art Hauser Centre between the Saskatoon Blades and Prince Albert Raiders in 615 days went similar to the one on February 29, 2020.
P-A was the better team in all areas, trimming the Bridge City Bunch 5-1 before 2,402 fans. Despite Jayden Wiens opening the scoring for the Blue and Gold, goaltender Carter Serhyenko and the Raiders bounced back to thwart the visitors the rest of the way. The Blades’ third ranked power play was denied on seven opportunities, just the second time all season that Saskatoon had not scored on a man advantage in a game and the first time since the October 2 home opener against Moose Jaw. Meanwhile, Prince Albert’s woeful power play, ranked 22nd and last in the W-H-L coming in, looked very good, scoring the winning goal in the second period on a Nolan Allan point shot. The Raiders’ were just 1-for-6 on the man advantage, but managed 16 shots on goal. A second tally on the power play was taken off the scoreboard by a successful offside challenge by by the Bridge City Bunch. Reece Vitelli, Landon Kosior, Ozzy Wiesblatt and Terrell Goldsmith also scored for 4-7-1 P-A, who out-shot the 9-3-1 Blue and Gold 35-25. The same team meet Saturday night at 7 o’clock at SaskTel Centre with the broadcast beginning at 6:30 on CJWW with the Pre-Game Show. Following is Les Lazaruk’s post-game interview with Blades’ head coach Brennan Sonne, plus the game summary courtesy the W-H-L…..
