It was a year ago today that a record breaking snowstorm hit parts of Saskatchewan and paralyzed Saskatoon including the city’s civic election. In the end after starting with freezing rain and snow, 35 centimetres of snow was on the ground.
Today the high will be +8 and as a sign of the unseasonably warm weather, there was an accident involving a motorcycle on Sunday.
The Edmonton Huskies were on the way home from Saskatoon yesterday when the team bus stopped for a deer-motorcycle collision on Highway 16 near Borden. The team’s medical staff assisted Borden Fire and Rescue in treating the injured. STARS was dispatched and transported the patient to hospital.
Borden Fire and Rescue posted a thank you on their Facebook page.
“At 17:47 we were toned out for a motorcycle vs deer call. We landed STARS [air ambulance] and they transported the patient. Borden Fire and Rescue would like to thank the Edmonton Huskies Football Team for stopping on the highway and the training staff for helping us stabilize the patient until Medivie arrived on scene. You folks were amazing to work with thank you for all of your help!”
And in a statement on the CJFL website, Commissioner Jim Pankovich said, “This shows the character of the young women and men that participate in our programs. Thank you very much to Huskies’ training staff that helped, going above and beyond expectations in their caring actions regarding this motor vehicle accident victim. Their actions made a difference this evening.”
The league has named trainers Cassidy Ku, Shawna Crozier and Randy Kueffe, equipment manager Luca Cupelil and defensive back Sheldon McNabb, himself studying to be a paramedic, as those providing assistance at the scene.
