To a man, the Saskatoon Blades said they learned a lesson from last weekend when they were swept in a home-and-home series by the arch-rival Prince Albert Raiders.
On Tuesday night, the Bridge City Bunch proved that, not quitting and coming from behind 2-0 and 3-1 deficits to out-last the Edmonton Oil Kings 4-3 in overtime before 2,380 fans at SaskTel Centre. Tristen Robins (pictured) scored the winning goal 50 seconds into the fourth period, giving the Blue and Gold their 10th win in 15 games prior to playing nine straight on the road because of the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials. Following a scoreless first period, the 9-3-3 Oil Kings appeared to be on their way to ending a three-game road winless streak by building a 2-0 advantage through 40 minutes on goals by Josh Williams and Dylan Guenther, the latter on the power play. After Jayden Wiens’ short-handed goal was matched by Jakub Demek’s tally early in the third period, the Blades trailed 3-1 with six minutes remaining. That’s when Brandon Lisowsky scored twice in 51 seconds to force overtime and setting the stage for Robins’ extra time heroics. Edmonton held a 32-23 advantage in shots on goal. Saskatoon takes a 10-4-1 record into their nine straight games away from home, the first of which is Friday in Brandon.
