Whether it was the third game in three days or a fired-up Winnipeg team or a combination of both, but the Saskatoon Blades were no match for the ICE in losing 6-0 Sunday.
The line of Jakin Smallwood, Connor Geekie and Mikey Milne combined for 11 scoring points and Daniel Hauser stopped 19 shots for his second shutout of the season as Winnipeg improved to 17-1-0 with their sixth straight victory. Geekie and Milne each had a goal and three assists while Smallwood scored the first goal of the game, then added a second tally and a helper. The ICE also got goals from 16-year-old Zachary Benson and Swiss defenceman Max Streule while out-shooting the 11-6-1 Bridge City Bunch 37-19. The Blue and Gold went 1-2-0 on a weekend that started with being storm-stayed Thursday night in Moosomin before riding Nolan Maier’s 46-save goaltending to a win in Brandon before falling twice to the C-H-L’s Number 1 ranked team and best in the entire W-H-L. The Blades are off until a Saturday visit to Swift Current. Following is Les Lazaruk’s post-game show interview with Saskatoon head coach Brennan Sonne and the game summary courtesy the W-H-L…..
