With snow and high wind in the forecast, with possibly some freezing rain in the mix, the City of Saskatoon says road crews are ready. They will be applying salt to keep freeways, intersections, on/off ramps and bridge decks from freezing.
Director of Roadways, Goran Saric, says crews will be working to keep the roads clear for emergency vehicles and Saskatoon Transit, but he urges everyone to consider delaying non-essential trips outside of Saskatoon. If you need to travel, make sure you have a vehicle emergency kit and a charged cell phone.
When the snow begins on Tuesday, road crews will be out plowing Circle Drive and the on/off ramps until the snow stops. Emergency Management Organization Director, Pamela Goulden-McLeod says the Cold Weather Strategy for Saskatoon’s vulnerable is activated with warming shelters open for those who need them. She reminds residents that with the wind, trees can sometimes come in contact with power lines, causing breaks or downed lines.
Director of Saskatoon Light & Power, Trevor Bells says, “If a tree falls onto a line, stay at least 10 metres or three car lengths away and stay away from other equipment that comes into contact with the line. If the line is on the ground, call 911 immediately and stay back.
