Vehicles are backed up on Highway 1 between Moose Jaw and Regina.
And now RCMP say they are turning motorists back from traveling on the eastbound lanes at Moose Jaw/Highway #39 in order for tow trucks to get through to open the roadway and clear the many vehicles at a standstill. They are urging motorists to not travel on Highway 1 between Moose Jaw and Regina.
White Butte RCMP are on the scene of an accident and traffic back up in the eastbound lanes of Highway #1 approximately ten kilometres east of Pense.
Both lanes of travel are blocked and there is a long, currently multi-kilometre back up of vehicles at a complete stand still.
All highways out of Regina had been listed as closed since yesterday afternoon due to the blizzard and dangerous driving conditions.
All highways except the TransCanada west of Regina, are now travel not recommended and Highway 1 between Moose Jaw and Regina remains listed as closed.
RCMP are reminding the public to be aware of the first responders attending the scene and if you know anyone in the vehicles waiting for the road to open, advise them to not leave their vehicle.
As well if snow is piling up around vehicles, turn it off if you can do without heat to ensure you don’t pump exhaust, from a possibly blocked exhaust pipe, back into your vehicle.
If you notice the vehicle in front of you has a blocked exhaust pipe, RCMP encourage you to let the motorist know. As well, preserve your cell phone battery.
