Even with continuous plowing and de-icing, Circle Drive remains icy in some spots, but conditions are expected to improve today (Thurs) and into tomorrow. The City of Saskatoon says crews are salting and sanding and milder weather will also help.
It began on Monday with rain leaving a thick layer of ice, followed by ten centimetres of snow and heavy winds creating drifts, which the City say in a news release, made de-icing on Circle Drive more complex than in a typical snowstorm. First, the snow had to be removed once it stopped falling and then the mixture of sand and salt was added for traction. All 252 lane kilometres of Circle Drive have been plowed and the focus continues to be applying salt, with 20 trucks around the city.
Sidewalk crews will have City-managed sidewalks and pathways plowed within the 48 hour requirement, as specified in a bylaw.
