There was one celebrated milestone, some streaks were continued and some were ended in Saturday night’s Saskatoon Blades at Swift Current Broncos’ game.
None of them were positive for the Bridge City Bunch.
In his 100th career appearance in goal for Speedy Creek, 20-year-old Isaac Poulter stopped 32 shots for, not only a shutout but his first-ever victory over the Blue and Gold as the Broncos won 3-0. Swifty scored a goal in each period, a power play marker from Matthew Ward in the first followed by even strength tallies from Rafael Pelletier in the second and Josh Filmon in the third period…more than enough as Poulter shone in net for the 6-9-3 Broncos. The victory ended an eight-game losing streak at home to the Blades, dating back to November 27, 2017, and put the brakes to a run of 21 games without beating Saskatoon in regulation time, dating back to November 10, 2017. For the 11-7-1 Bridge City Bunch, the loss was their third-in-a-row and the second consecutive game in which they were held off the scoreboard. The Blue and Gold have gone more than seven periods, 144:03, without scoring and have tallied just three power play goals in their last four games. The Blades’ last even-strength goal was Tristen Robins’ overtime winner on November 9 at home against Edmonton…a run of 240:00 minutes. Add on another 5:10 to that for the last time Saskatoon managed a 5-on-5 marker, a Brandon Lisowsky shot that forced O-T that night. On Saturday, Poulter’s netminding was the reason why the Bridge City Bunch didn’t dent the twine behind him, possibly the Blue and Gold’s best effort of their last four outings. Now, they have to wait until a Friday visit to Red Deer for their next chance to score some goals and get back in the win column. Following is Les Lazaruk’s Post-Game Show interview with Blades’ head coach Brennan Sonne and the game summary courtesy the W-H-L…..
