A Churchbridge-area man was fined $3,000 in Yorkton Provincial Court recently, after pleading guilty to multiple wildlife offences. Back in February, Ministry of Environment conservation officers received a call through the Turn In Poachers and Polluters line, also called the TIPP line, from someone who witnessed two people retrieving a dead moose north of Bredenbury.

Conservation officers investigated and concluded the hunters had shot the moose on fenced, private farmland and then cut pieces off the animal, leaving edible parts of the moose in the field to waste. A search warrant of the vehicle led to seizing the moose meat.

Fifty-seven year old John Mair was charged for hunting on private land without permission, possessing wildlife taken illegally, and leaving edible game in the field. The second hunter was a minor and wasn’t charged. Along with the fine, Mair has been suspended from hunting for a year.
