The Tim Horton’s Canadian Olympic Curling Trials continue today and run through Sunday at SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon. Nine women’s teams and nine men’s teams from across the country are taking part in respective preliminary round-robin plus playoff formats. The eventual winners will represent Canada in four-person team curling at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China in February. Among the nine men’s teams taking part is the Matt Dunstone foursome from Regina. They have 0 wins, 4 losses…good for 9th place. On today’s schedule…

The New Holland World Juniors Qualifying Event starts today and runs through Saturday at the Granite Curling Club in Saskatoon. There are 12 junior women’s and 12 junior men’s teams from across the country taking part, each split into two pools of six teams for preliminary round-robin play, followed by playoffs. The eventual gender champions will represent Canada at the World Junior Championships, March 5th through 12th in Sweden. There is a Saskatchewan team taking part in both gender divisions…the Madison Kleiter foursome from Saskatoon’s Sutherland Curling Club in the junior women’s group and the Daymond Bernath quartet from Saskatoon’s Sutherland Curling Club in the junior men’s division. The Kleiter team has 1 win, 1 loss…tied for 3rd place in Pool B. The Bernath squad has 1 win, 1 loss…tied for 3rd place in Pool B. On today’s schedule…

The Canadian Football League playoffs are set to begin Sunday, as follows:
East Division semi-final
Montreal Alouettes at Hamilton Tiger-Cats—Noon
(Winner advances to the East final on December 5th at Toronto)
West Division semi-final
Saskatchewan Roughriders vs Calgary Stampeders
(Kick-off time is 3:30 p.m. at Mosaic Stadium. The winner advances to the West final on December 5th at Winnipeg. The Riders finished the regular season with 9 wins, 5 losses for 18 points…good for 2nd place while Calgary ended up with 8 wins, 6 losses for 16 points…good for 3rd place.)

The Canada West University Football Conference-champion Saskatchewan Huskies are headed to the U Sports semi-finals. The Dogs will visit the Montreal Carabins in the Uteck Bowl on Saturday. The winner will advance to the Vanier Cup on December 4th against the winner of the Mitchell Bowl between the St. Francis Xavier X-Men at the Western Ontario Mustangs in London, Ontario.
