With the majority of surgical staff being redeployed back to their original positions after helping out with overcrowded ICUs, the provincial opposition wants to know what the plan is for reducing the surgical backlog.
Premier Scott Moe acknowledged during Question Period that the surgical wait list has increased to over 35,000 in Saskatchewan.
Health Minister Paul Merriman says the government will be exploring innovative measures to reduce the surgical backlog, including working with private sector partners who could perform the surgeries, the scans and therapeutic treatments needed after surgery.
NDP Leader Ryan Meili suggests the rising surgical backlog in Saskatchewan is another example of the province’s mismanagement during the pandemic which includes lowest vaccination rates and highest death rates in the country.
