Battleford RCMP say two people died in an accident last night on the east side of North Battleford.

RCMP were called out to the collision on Territorial Driver around 9 pm. They say a car going southbound is reported to have crossed the highway into oncoming traffic and while one vehicle managed to successfully swerve out of the way, the car then collided with a northbound SUV. The four people in the SUV suffered minor injuries and walked away from the crash.

However, a 53 year old woman passenger in the car died at the scene, a 56 year old male passenger was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and a 56 year old man driving was airlifted by STARS to hospital in Saskatoon with serious injuries.

Traffic in the area was restricted due to the investigation for several hours, but the scene has now been cleared and there are no more traffic delays or restrictions in the area. While, the cause of the collision remains under investigation, RCMP say alcohol may have been a factor.
