A tire retailer has been ordered to pay unremitted fees after being convicted of selling tires without registering in the Saskatchewan Scrap Tire Program.
Silk Tire Inc which operated retail outlets in Foam Lake and Kelvington was convicted in Yorkton Provincial Court after pleading guilty to selling tires without participating in an approved tire recycling program. Silk Tire must pay $217,669 in unremitted fees as well as $6,975 for accounting fees connected to the investigation as well as a $1,400 fine.
The Ministry of Environment says their investigation revealed that Silk Tire Inc was operating as a tire retailer, but had not registered in the approved scrap tire program operated by Tire Stewardship of Saskatchewan, and was not remitting tire recycling fees even though the fees were being collected when the tires were sold.
