Saskatoon’s planning, development and community services committee will meet this morning (tues) with the Saskatoon Tribal Council’s temporary wellness front and center during the meeting.
The STC is hoping to have their lease agreement for the temporary shelter, on 1st Avenue North beside the Hilton, approved by the committee so it can make its way to City Council on December 20th for final approval.
Last week, Tribal Chief Mark Arcand said the goal is to start with 50 beds and to have shelter and wellness centre run during the winter.
The STC also applied for a grant from the federal government worth $1.4 million dollars to help cover the costs of the project.
Arcand says without government dollars, the STC would likely only be able to run the facility for up to two months. The committee will meet virtually beginning at 9:30.
