Saskatoon Blades’ fans will have to wait at least another five days to see their W-H-L team win again on home ice!
Playing for the first time at SaskTel Centre in 31 days, since a 4-3 overtime victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings on November 9, the Bridge City Bunch had troubles with the Calgary Hitmen again, losing 4-2 Friday. The visitors never trailed in front of 2,946 fans with Zac Funk responding within four minutes of each Blue and Gold goal to retake the lead. Funk’s second tally, with 4:22 remaining in the third period, snapped a 2-2 tie and improved Calgary’s record to 11-9-3 while the Blades fell to 13-11-1. Adam Kydd and Riley Fiddler-Schultz also scored for the Hitmen, who out-shot Saskatoon 31-25. Calgary has not lost in regulation time in seven games (4-0-3), have won four straight head-to-head games with the Bridge City Bunch and have won their last six visits to SaskTel Centre. Kyle Crnkovic and Jayden Wiens replied for the Blue and Gold. Wiens’ goal extended the Blades streak to four straight games with a power play marker. Saskatoon continues to hold down fourth place in the Eastern Conference, but only seven points separates the Bridge City Bunch from 11th place Prince Albert. The Blue and Gold have a busy week before a nine-day Christmas break, visiting Moose Jaw Tuesday, hosting Winnipeg Wednesday, traveling to Prince Albert Friday and entertaining the Raiders on Saturday, December 18, Following is the game summary courtesy the W-H-L and Les Lazaruk’s post-game show interviews with head coach Brennan Sonne and Crnkovic…..
