Zach Collaros and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers beat the Tiger-Cats in Hamilton Sunday night by a score of 33-25 in an overtime thriller to capture their second straight Grey Cup title.
The Winnipeg quarterback was named the Grey Cup MVP after leading the Bombers to back-to-back titles for the first time since 1961-62. It’s the first time a team has won back-to-back Grey Cups since Montreal did so in 2009-2010.
Receiver Nick Demski was named the top Canadian in the 108th edition of the Grey Cup. Demski finished the game with four catches for 27 yards and a touchdown. Collaros completed 21 of his 32 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns along with two interceptions in the game.
The Bombers were able to bring back 21 of their 24 starters from their 2019 championship team.
Hamilton starting quarterback Dane Evans was injured in the second quarter after being sacked so Jeremiah Masoli came in and completed 20 of his 25 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns along with one interception, giving some spark to the Hamilton offence.
When it came to overtime, the Bombers took the lead on a catch from Darvin Adams. The game was then sealed on an interception from Kyrie Wilson on a pass from Masoli in the extra frame which was tipped by two Blue Bomber defenders.
Hamilton is now 0-4 in Grey Cups since they last won it all in 1999 which happens to be the longest drought in the CFL. Saskatchewan will play host to the Grey Cup game in 2022 at Mosaic Stadium in Regina.
