They’ve been getting it done on the road of late and, as a result of Friday’s 3-2 triumph in Prince Albert, the Saskatoon Blades are back into sole possession of second place in the East Division and fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
Captain Aidan De La Gorgendiere’s (pictured) goal snapped a 2-2 tie with 3:21 left in the third period as the Bridge City Bunch won their third straight road game and ended the Raiders’ run of consecutive wins, head-to-head, over the Blue and Gold at three games. Saskatoon has 31 points, one ahead of Brandon and two up on Moose Jaw, who both lost Friday. Despite allowing the game’s first goal, the now 15-12-1 Blades responded before the end of the first period on goals by Brenden Lee and Trevor Wong. Saskatoon was also able to prevail, despite being 0-for-5 on the power play and allowing both P-A goals on three man advantage chances, off the sticks of Sloan Stanick and Reece Vitelli. Nolan Maier was strong between the pipes with 31 saves as the 11-14-2 Raiders out-shot the Bridge City Bunch 33-28. His 12th win of the season gives the 20-year-old Yorkton product 103 for his career, alone in 19th place on the all-time W-H-L career list, passing former Red Deer and Stanley Cup-champion with Carolina, Cam Ward. Next up to catch in 18th spot at 104 wins is former Lethbridge and Swift Current, now present-day Edmonton Oilers’ netminder, Stuart Skinner. The Blades host the Raiders Saturday night, Teddy Bear Toss Night, at 7 o’clock at SaskTel Centre. The broadcast on CJWW starts at 6:30. Following is the official game summary, courtesy the W-H-L, along with Les Lazaruk’s Post-Game Show interview with Saskatoon head coach Brennan Sonne…..
