It has been just over a year since the Saskatchewan SPCA launched its Emergency Pet Food Bank program, which so far has provided over 31,000 pounds of food to those in need. Spokesperson, Josh Hourie, says today (Fri) is a Day of Awareness for the program and there are two goals.
The first is to make sure those who are struggling to make ends meet realize there is pet food available to them, so they don’t have to make the choice of feeding themselves or their furry family member, or possibly having to re-home their pet. The second is to ask for support from the public through donations of unopened pet food or a monetary donation through the Saskatchewan SPCA website. Hourie says to a lot of people pets are more than just animals, they are family members, and the Saskatchewan SPCA wants to make sure these families can stay together.
The Emergency Pet Food Bank is available at food banks in nine communities, including Fort Qu’Appelle, Maple Creek, Melville, Moosomin, Nipawin, Rosetown, Rosthern, Saskatoon and Swift Current. The Saskatchewan SPCA will be posting on social media channels all day for Pet Food Bank Awareness Day.
