Saskatchewan RCMP say quick thinking by its members and help from the public has led to the recovery of a significant amount of cash.
RCMP received a report of a theft on Beardy’s First Nation at 7:43 a.m. on Monday. A vehicle had been stolen from a home in the community with a significant amount of cash inside.
Rosthern RCMP enlisted help from the public trying to gather leads and information. A suspect was identified and officers were told he had just left a business south of Saskatoon and was traveling in a taxi heading towards the city.
Saskatoon RCMP conducted a traffic stop on the taxi south of Saskatoon. Two passengers, a man and woman, were arrested about an hour and a half after the robbery had taken place.
RCMP Sgt. Spence says, “I would say it was especially meaningful to share this information with the victims considering it’s so close to the holiday season. The excellent collaboration between multiple RCMP Detachments and support units is what ultimately led to the incredibly quick progression of this investigation and arrests in less than two hours from the initial call for service.”
Waylon Gardypie, 38-years-old, and 34 year old Nikki Gardipy, both of the Beardy’s First Nation, are facing charges which include theft over $5,000.
Meanwhile, Rosthern RCMP are still looking for a Jeep Cherokee that was reported stolen. It’s a grey 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with Saskatchewan license plate 967 MDH – has not been located. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of this vehicle is asked to contact Rosthern RCMP at 306-232-6400 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
