The Saskatoon zone has almost half of the new cases of COVID-19, according to Friday’s update from the province. Saskatoon is reporting 24 cases out of a total of 49. The number of Omicron cases has risen by two with seven identified in the province, and another person who tested positive for the virus has died, for a total of 942 to date. The update includes 107 people in the hospital with 33 in an ICU. Of these 107 patients, just under 61 per cent weren’t fully vaccinated.
Comparing the numbers from a year ago, on December 17th of 2020, there had been 12,832 confirmed cases of COVID-19, so in the past year, there have been 69,237 cases. On the same date last year, 105 people had died who had COVID-19, compared to 942 today (Fri), meaning another 837 deaths in the past year. The map is below the highlights

- Almost one-third (32.7%) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39
- More than one-half (56.5%) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 5 years and older) were fully vaccinated
- As of December 17th, a total of 107 individuals are hospitalized, including 74 inpatient hospitalizations and 33 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 107 patients, 65 (60.7%) were not fully vaccinated.
- There are no (0) residents in out-of-province ICUs.
- One (1) new death reported today. 942 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died, with a case fatality rate of 1.1%.
- 1,307,026 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the province. As of December 15th, 2021, when other provincial and national numbers are available from PHAC, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 1,103,844 tests performed per million. The national rate of 1,320,194 tests performed per million.
- The 7-day average of new COVID-19 case numbers was 52 (4.3 new cases per 100,000)
