Between the four Saskatoon Blades’ goal-scorers on Monday, they now have a total of six tallies for the season. But, the Bridge City Bunch will take them as the four goals stood up in the Blue and Gold’s fourth consecutive road triumph, 4-1 over the Raiders in Prince Albert.
Defencemen Tanner Molendyk (pictured), Spencer Shugrue and Charlie Wright notched their second, second and first goals of the season, respectively, while 16-year-old Rowan Calvert notched his first career W-H-L goal in his first career W-H-L game. It turned out to be the game winner as the Blades improved to 16-13-1 for the season. Defenceman Landon Kosior spoiled Nolan Maier’s shutout bid with a power play goal late in the second period. Calvert is the 937th skater to play in a Saskatoon game and the 1,060th player, goaltenders included, to don a Blades’ jersey in franchise history. As for Shurgue, normally a defenceman, he saw most of his action Monday as a centre with the Bridge City Bunch icing a short-handed line-up of 17 skaters. Defenceman Rhett Rhinehart left in the first period due to illness, not believed to be COVID-19 related. The Blue and Gold had three un-named players identified as being in the W-H-L’s COVID protocol prior to the game. Saskatoon comes home Tuesday, looking to end a three-game SaskTel Centre losing streak when they host the Red Deer Rebels at 7 p.m. The 12-15-2 Raiders, who out-shot the Blades 24-19 in the fast-paced, close-checking contest, host Red Deer Wednesday.
