Over two million cases of COVID-19 have now been recorded in Canada.

This is the day we find out how Saskatchewan has fared in terms of case numbers for COVID-19 over the Christmas break. Reporting on the Government of Saskatchewan website resumes today for a few days, until time is taken off for New Year’s.

Last Thursday, in a pre-taped address for social media, Premier Scott Moe said that although there are no extra restrictions over the holidays because of the rising COVID-19 numbers, including the new Omicron variant, the government was tracking the situation closely, and hadn’t ruled out adding measures around large gathering sizes, potentially this week.

Meanwhile, several provinces reported record high daily COVID-19 case counts over the Christmas weekend. In response Manitoba imposed new public health restrictions yesterday. Our eastern neighbour recorded eight COVID-related deaths and over 21-hundred new cases over a three-day period. They are capping indoor and outdoor gatherings at 50% of a venue’s capacity or 250 people, whichever is fewer.

There are new capacity limits for New Brunswick as well.  Health officials there are reporting 639 new COVID-19 cases over three days. Nova Scotia has had more than 11-hundred cases of COVID-19 confirmed over the weekend. Quebec imposed new restrictions on Boxing Day.

FlightAware.com says airlines have cancelled more than five-thousand flights to, from or inside the U-S since Friday.  There were over 14-hundred U-S cancellations yesterday and 720 so far today.
