Because of the pandemic, some children may have missed their booster shots for regular vaccinations.

That’s something that USask physician, and President of the Urban Public Health Network of Canada is researching.

Dr. Cory Neudorf explains that at the beginning of the pandemic during the lockdown, and because of vaccinations for COVID-19 taking priority across the province, students in Grades 4 to 6 who would have normally had their regular booster shots at school, may not have received them, or their vaccinations for Hepatitis B and HPV.

He and his research team will be looking at how extensive this problem is, and what the plans are for getting caught up with the backlog.

The research will also model what it will look like in the future if the children in this age group don’t get their vaccines, because there could be out outbreaks for those who are unvaccinated.

Dr. Neudorf notes that not having an HPV vaccine increases the risk of cervical cancer.
